My name is Amanda Egut. I am a 22-year-old senior public relations major at Kent State University. I will graduate in the December of 2009 and hope to be employed somewhere where law and ethics meet. I would like to work for a firm that specializes in public affairs or work directly for the government.
I am involved in many activities on campus. If I don’t stay busy I feel like I am wasting time. I am the Panhellenic delegate for my sorority, Chi Omega, and I am involved in my schools PRSSA chapter. Panhel is similar to a government for sororities and I couldn’t be happier to help with that. I help plan the chapter meetings for PRSSA and get to meet professionals. I get the best of both worlds and feel like I have created a very good balance.
Law has always interested me and I wanted to take this opportunity to further my interest in this field. I hope to go to law school one day though not immediately after graduation. I plan on taking a year off to work and get acquainted with ‘real life.’ I made this blog as part of my PR Online Tactics class. It is a tool I can use to further my own interest and knowledge of something that affects me every day but I rarely see in action.
I wanted to name the blog Herthemis or Achemis after the Greek goddess Themis, who is associated with law and the messenger god Achilles. I was trying to merge the messenger with the law informant to inform the public about communication law. “The
Right Balance” is a more straightforward name though.
The picture is one of my favorites. It is a picture from the Big/Little reveal for the sorority. It is a tangled mess but in the end you got to see who your ‘big’ was. I thought it related to government and law well. Sometimes (most times) it takes some work to figure out exactly what is going on. Law is complicated and meaningful, just like the tangled mess you see me in pictured here.
Keep reading and stay informed. It is better to know too much than to know to little.
